Chenille de Soie is a velvety silk floss with hairs sticking out at the sides. This so-called pile gives the chenille yarn the appearance of a caterpillar. The inside of the yarn consists of two tear-resistant silk threads that are twisted during manufacture. During twisting, small, finely cut silk threads fall between the two inner threads and are held together by them. In the 18th century, chenille threads were often used for embroidery, for example to border the edge of a sampler or to create natural elements in needle painting, such as a meadow or treetops. Chenille is suitable for embroidery and appliqué. Chenille is available in 21 colors. The yarn is supplied in small boxes of 5 meters each. The colors correspond to the colors of Soie d'Alger, Soie Ovale, Soie de Paris, Soie Gobelins and the silk ribbons.
