Au Ver à Soie metallic yarns are supplied in different qualities and shades of colour. There are uni-colored metal threads (Coloris uni), threads with a changing color gradient (Coloris mélangés), Hi Lustre, high-gloss metal threads made from a untwisted thread, the quality Bourdon, Metallics Antique and Gimp.
Gimp is a yarn in which a metallic gold thread is spirally wrapped around an inner core. Gimp is required for gold embroidery and is ideal for framing applications. Size 12 is the finer thread, size 36 is quite strong.
