The first surviving samplers date from the early 17th century. They are narrow and long because the looms were only narrow. The narrow cloths of this period show borders arranged in rows, corner motifs, Christian motifs but also secular depictions of the magnificent courtly couple, who step twice through this opulent sampler. The towels of that time inspired us to this design.
